Veneers
Dental veneers are a type of cosmetic dentistry that cover your existing teeth with a dental material to improve common problems such as:
- chipped or broken teeth.
- discoloured teeth
- gaps between your teeth.
- Worn down teeth
- misaligned or irregularly shaped teeth.
An impressive smile makeover can be achieved in a short space of time using veneers.
What are veneers made of?
There are two materials that can be used: ceramic or composite:
- Ceramic – these combine the ultimate aesthetics with the strength of modern ceramics. A disadvantage of ceramic veneers is that they require some reshaping of the existing tooth. Although recent techniques allow us to only need to remove a very small amount of the tooth surface, we can understand that there is some sacrifice involved – some patients are comfortable with this and some are not.
- Composite – the advantages of using composite material instead of porcelain are that they can be done without the need for any tooth reshaping; composite is more easily repaired than porcelain, and that the cost of composite is lower than porcelain. Modern composites also look nearly as good as porcelain. Find out more about composite veneers.
