Meet Our Team
Dentists
Giles Derry
I qualified from Guy’s Hospital Dental School in 1980. I gained experience of dental practice in Northampton and Peterborough before joining Triangle Dental Practice in 1984. I became a partner in 1986.
I enjoy all aspects of dentistry and offer my patients a wide range of treatments and am particularly interested in cosmetic dentistry. I enjoy the challenge of solving complicated dental problems and working closely with my patients to achieve the best possible results using the latest techniques.
I believe strongly in the prevention of dental disease. All my patients have regular appointments with our hygienists to help keep their teeth and gums in good health. Teeth should look good and feel good!
I have undertaken many postgraduate courses to keep my dentistry up to date including a year long course at the Eastman Dental Institute in advanced techniques and the Diploma in General Dental Practice. In the last year, I have undertaken 12 days of postgraduate study.
And finally . . .
I am married to Lesley who works for the British Dental Association in London. We live in Chieveley and have recently gutted and refurbished our house. We are keen gardeners and are struggling to tame an overgrown garden. We keep chickens.
Pete Kaspar
I qualified from Guy’s Hospital in 1975, and after ‘testing the waters’ of hospital, community and general practice, settled into Tilehurst in 1986. I joined the Partnership at Triangle in 1989.
After 35 years of dentistry I feel I am still accruing knowledge and wisdom – the better to look after my patients!
I live in the village of Benson with my wife Mary (an acupuncturist and teacher of the Alexander Technique) and my two daughters Harriet and Phoebe who are returning to the roost after their life at university.
My interests span natural history, photography, travel, reading and cooking. I am a self-confessed ‘foodie’!
I also work for ‘Natural England’ as a volunteer Bat Conservation Officer for Oxfordshire.
James Pegg
I graduated from Guy’s Hospital Dental School, part of the University of London, in 1988. After completing a year in vocational training in a dental practice in Lincolnshire, I moved to a practice in Thatcham where I worked for the next seven years. During this time I completed a three-year course based at the University of Bristol which led to me gaining a Diploma in Postgraduate Dental Studies.
I joined Triangle Dental Practice in 1998 and became a Partner in 2001. I continue to be committed to postgraduate education, and I attend numerous courses and conferences every year to ensure I keep abreast of the latest developments in dentistry. Recently I completed a one-year Certificate course in Advanced Cosmetic Dentistry based in London. I am also a member of several professional organisations including the British Dental Association; the British Society of Periodontology; the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (www.bacd.com) and the British Dental Bleaching Society.
I am an enthusiastic proponent of Triangle Dental Practice’s philosophy of ‘Maximum Prevention, Minimum Intervention’, and greatly enjoy working with the Triangle team of hygienists and oral health advisers to deliver preventive treatment as well as advice on minimising the risks of dental disease. I also have a special interest in cosmetic and aesthetic dentistry, and derive immense satisfaction from improving, and indeed creating great smiles for my patients.
In my spare time I am an enthusiastic amateur photographer, and an equally enthusiastic amateur cook. I have attended several cookery courses, the most notable of which were at Rick Stein’s Seafood School in Cornwall, and at Raymond Blanc’s Manoir Aux Quat’ Saisons in Oxfordshire.
Brian Holmes
I am a graduate of the Queens University Belfast Dental School. Since Qualifying I have continued to develop my dental knowledge by being involved in post-graduate dental education.
In 2005 I was awarded a Diploma in Postgraduate Dental Education by the University of Bristol. I am currently a member of a dentistry study club.
The replacement of missing teeth is an important aspect of dentistry. It is extremely satisfying to me to see the difference having a smile restored can make to a person both in terms of confidence and appearance. Removable prosthodontics (ie the making of dentures) is something that I particularly enjoy. Dentures come literally in all shapes and sizes and are individually made to suit the denture wearer. Denture teeth look very realistic and the improvement in appearance can be fantastic. Denture bases can be made from a variety of materials including metal (very strong); acrylic (looks very natural), and flexible nylon (very retentive). The design of each denture is very important in order to best suit the needs of the individual.
Other methods of replacing missing teeth that I find interesting include bonding to adjacent teeth (ie ‘sticky bridges’) as this minimises the impact on the supporting tooth.
Recently I have become interested in dental implants as a means of replacing missing teeth. Dental implants can be used to help support dentures or individual crowns or bridges. Because a dental implant is attached securely to the jaw bone, and implant-supported restoration is the closest thing to having a natural tooth.
Since joining Triangle Dental Practice in 2001 I have appreciated the Triangle Practice Philosophy of ‘maximum prevention’ (of dental disease) and I enjoy working closely with our team of dental hygienists and dental health educators.
My home is near Newbury, where I live with my wife and three daughters.
